Health 101 – Step 1 – Getting Enough Vitamin C & D3

The most important thing you can do to live a healthy life is to make sure your body is never low on vitamin C or D3.

Vitamin C

The reason most animals don’t suffer from heart disease & heal so much faster than we do is because they actually make their own vitamin C, & when stressed, sick or injured, they make a lot of it! Vitamin C allows the arteries to be repaired and maintained and avoids forcing the liver to make cholesterol to patch the arteries as they break down.

The good news is that by taking vitamin C in larger amounts than animals produce, we can maintain our bodies and heal even better than they can. The body can’t store vitamin C, so it’s best to take many smaller doses throughout the day than one large one. Where most people get this wrong is they take their 1g of vitamin C in the morning and think they’re done. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. You see, the half life of vitamin C in the body is only 30 minutes. That means that any one dose doesn’t last longer than 2 hours. Most people are going 22 hours of the day without any of its antioxidant protection, immunity boosting, and all the other awesome benefits of high plasma levels of vitamin C.

Switch out the several coffees during the day to simply sipping your vitamin C water whenever you feel your energy fade. Rather than cause a cortisol stress response from the caffeine, which by the way instructs your body to create abdominal fat, you actually help your body burn fat and bring up your energy, while repairing stress damage. Wins across the board! 🙂

The ideal dosage amount of vitamin C varies greatly from person to person, and even from day to day, depending on current health, stress and activity level!

Dr Fred Klenner (1907 – 1984), the first MD to treat his patients with mega dose C, recommended a maintenance base of 5g per adult of 160lbs (75kg).

Dr Robert Cathcart (1938 – 2006), continued Dr. Klenner’s work and then developed the protocol called “titrating to bowel tolerance”.

The idea is:
Whatever quantity of vitamin C you can take, that makes you feel well, without getting intestinal gurgling, soft stools or diarrhea, is being used by your body.

Those symptoms are the result of unused powder in the intestine drawing water from your body, in which case you need to reduce dosage and drink water.

Vitamin D3

The great thing about vitamin D3 is that it is fat soluble. This means the body can hold onto it and use it as needed. Since we’re all taking way more pills and capsules than we’d like to, I love being able to take just one 50K IU dose of D3 per week and not have to worry about being protected at night. You see, another awesome benefit of Vitamin C is that it greatly increases your energy. So you need to stop at least 2 hours before bedtime so it doesn’t keep you from getting to sleep. Which means, you need the D3 to continue your antioxidant protection and keep your immunity strong while you sleep! You’ll hear scare stories about D3 calcifying the blood, cheerfully brought to you by the same Big Pharma players that want to convince you that more than 2g a day of vitamin C is bad for you. The less C and D3 you take, the more meds you will need, period.

At the moment, I’ve been using this D3 I found on Amazon.

Summary

As Andrew Saul likes to sing “Take enough vitamin C to be symptom free, whatever the amount will be!” Spread your dosage throughout the day. Reduce if you get gurgling in the gut or soft stools.

Do at least one large dose of D3 a week or a minimum 5K a day if you prefer. Most of my fellow health coaches average between 50-70K IU per week.

Cheers to your health! 🙂
